Stories of Hope From Kenya

“Calling it a home would be a difficult thing,” Antony said gravely, remembering the fragile shelter where a 12-year-old girl and her mother lived.

Antony and his wife, Nan-c, lead Tumaini African Foundation, one of our trusted partners in Nairobi, Kenya. Their work primarily focuses on youth growing up in one of the city’s informal settlements—a place where poverty and vulnerability are part of daily life.

“Her mom fell sick,” Antony shared. “At the age of 12, she became the breadwinner…they lived in this home made of paper and iron sheets brought together. When it rained, the walls could not stop the water.”

This is not just one family’s story. It reflects a heartbreaking reality for millions of children across Kenya. But it’s also a story of hope.

Because of leaders like Antony—and the generosity of people like you—that girl’s story didn’t end in despair. It began again with something simple: a nutritious meal.

Watch this powerful interview with Antony to hear how that meal sparked hope and change—and how you’re helping rewrite more stories like hers.
