A 20-year celebration

As we celebrate 20 years of Ten Thousand Homes, we celebrate you. This page is a tribute to the ones who give, serve, and believe in the power of hope and home. This is your legacy, and we’re so grateful to be celebrating it with you.

We’ll be adding new content all throughout August. Share YOUR story below!

I was at TTH four years ago, leaving Brazil for the first time, not knowing what to expect—only certain that I was obeying God. Every moment was precious. I remember the day after I arrived, we visited local families and children in our projects. One of the first homes we went to was Silvia’s. Just being there, I felt joy in the Lord. Over the next two months, many things happened, but before returning to Brazil, I learned we’d help renovate a house—and it was Silvia’s! Being part of that, seeing the family’s joy, and serving with TTH confirmed even more my calling.

Season of Service, 2018

I went to the TTH in March 2019, in obedience to God and without knowing why He wanted me to go. During the 3 weeks, God taught me about serving and obeying Himself without understanding what He wants. I met wonderful people and it was amazing to see what He does through each one of the TTH. One of my best memories, is a [water balloon] war we did with the children, it was an extremely fun day and filled with the care of God.

Having volunteered with TTH for the past 3 years+ building houses, I’m so pleased that on our last build we were able to work with the youth of the area to build a home for a child-led family.

Teaching Phama how to extend timbers, to create a roof and have him lead a team of his peers to complete the roof with minimal assistance required from me, well, this is what working in a community really means. It doesn’t matter about skin colour, our past, our financial position – what matters is our future, together, learning from each other and building; building each other up, building community and building lives with a quality future.

Welcome Home Celebration, 2016

The best years of my life! The best memories of a lifetime!! Ten Thousand Homes is support, love and most importantly home. I am the woman I am today because I was prepared and marinated at Ten Thousand Homes lol. It gave the little girl from Embonisweni hope. I love that I get to share the memories with my kids today. Celebrating their birthday or just visiting a friend. It is a big part of us.

While volunteering at TTH God showed me the impact just a couple people can make on their community. I helped at weekly after-school programs where kids would come from all over the community to eat a warm meal, play games, and hear about Jesus. Several woman from the community would get up early to walk to the program site, cook in the open air on intensely hot days, and by mid afternoon warmly welcome dozens of energetic kids. Day after day. So joyfully and so willingly. Their dedication to serving the Lord faithfully in their community has stuck with me for many years and shaped my mindset for serving my community back home.

Finishing touches, 2013

As TTH staff, I have more favorite memories than I can count. But some memorable ones have been simply sitting around campfires with visiting teams, volunteers, and friends built through TTH. Listening to people’s stories, playing music together, and being reminded that regardless of who we are or where we come from, we all have things to contribute and things we can learn from each other.
