MBONISWENI

The red dirt roads of Mbonisweni wind around breathtaking scenery and are full of the footprints of children and grannies. A generation of young parents has been overwhelmed by sickness, hopelessness and need. Confused spirituality and a consuming hunger for love, nourishment and to be known have left families broken and children orphaned. Ten Thousand Homes has been pursuing relationships and building hope and homes in Mbonisweni for 3 years. In 2010, Ten Thousand Homes began partnering with Pastor Sthembiso and the Mbonisweni Evangelical Reform Church to host a weekly feeding program.
After more than a year of providing safety, meeting basic needs and communicating a sense of belonging, it is apparent that the 200 children that run excitedly into the churchyard weekly feel at home. New faces peek through the gate each week and are quickly drawn in by the undeniable hope that resonates amongst the children and volunteers.
Hope spreads. Home is contagious.
In addition to creating hope and homes for the children of Mbonisweni, Ten Thousand Homes is developing relationships with a group of young adults, many of them orphans themselves, from the church. These eager disciples volunteer weekly to lovingly prepare a meal and a program for the children. They have even started joining in on Ten Thousand Homes construction projects and helping with other facets of our ministry! By investing in these leaders, Ten Thousand Homes and visiting teams have an opportunity to change the generation that will change Africa.
