Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who does TTH typically build homes for?

The homes that we build are for orphans or vulnerable children, also termed OVC’s.  These children are identified through our relationships with local churches and home based care volunteers.

Q: Who is an orphan?

The United Nations defines an orphan as a child who has lost one or both parents. (UNAIDS Report on the Global AIDS Epidemic. 2010)

Q: How much does it cost to build a home?

It costs $5000 to build one home for orphans or vulnerable children and only $5 to buy a brick.

Q: Are donations made to Ten Thousand Homes tax-deductible?

Yes! Ten Thousand Homes has 501(c)(3) status as a nonprofit organization so donations are tax-deductible.

Q: Do Ten Thousand Homes staff earn a salary?

No.  Ten Thousand Homes does not pay salaries.  People serving with TTH are responsible for raising their own personal support.  This enables us to keep our operating expenses at a minimum.

Q: Where are you located?

Most of our staff and work is located in White River, South Africa, which is very close to Kruger National Park.  We are set up as a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit in the United States.  We also have nonprofit status in South Africa.

Q: Do I need experience in construction to come and help?

No!  Anyone with a willing heart to come and serve the children of Africa is welcome.

Q: What is the cost of the feeding programs?

$5/month=1 Child
$500/month=1 entire Feeding Program
(This amount is for 1 meal per week.)

100% of your donation for our Feeding Programs goes toward the following:

Groceries, kitchen supplies and utensils, gas for cooking, volunteer training, and feeding facilities.

Q: Approximately how many children are you feeding each week?

We are feeding approximately 500 children once a week. As community volunteers are able and we raise more funds we are definitely open to feeding more days or expanding into other communities.
